Youth Program

Navigating school, language barriers, and future goals can be challenging - especially for Chinese immigrant youth learning English. We provide the support students need to succeed in school and beyond, grow in confidence, and make a difference in their community.

At Pui Tak Center, we empower 7th–12th grade youth in Chicago’s Chinatown through ESL classes, after-school tutoring, ACT English prep classes, volunteer opportunities, and summer enrichment programs that support academic success, personal growth, and community involvement.

After School Program

Learning doesn’t have to end with the school day. Our popular After School Program is designed to not only provide homework tutoring for students, but also prepare students for high school or college, build character, and explore career paths and life purpose. Students have the opportunity to participate in different workshops, go on field trips and college visits.

There are two tracks available:

  1. ESL After School Support for newer Chinese immigrant students, with additional ESL classes and individual tutoring

  2. Non-ESL After School Support for ABCs or students who have exited the ESL program

Registration typically opens in August for the Fall semester and in December for the Spring semester.

ASM Internship and Apprenticeship

The Pui Tak Youth Program Internship (ages 16+) offers hands-on experience in tutoring, service projects, event planning, and administrative tasks to support youth in Chinatown. The Coding Fun Apprenticeship (Grades 9–12) introduces students to STEM, web design, and HTML coding.

Registration typically opens at the beginning of each school semester.

Youth Volunteering

Join us in making a positive impact on our community through events like street clean-ups and phone banking, where youth have the opportunity to give back to their neighborhoods. These opportunities provide valuable experiences that help youth build leadership and teamwork skills while fostering a sense of responsibility. Whether through community service, advocacy, or workshops, there’s always a way to get involved and contribute.

Fill out the form to be notified of new volunteer opportunities.

Summer Program

Learning at Pui Tak Center continues through the summer! The Pui Tak Center Youth Summer Program held annually in July to August is a daily academic summer program with ESL focus for bilingual students in grades 7-12. Students engage in quality English instruction and field trips that will aid their transition into the American school system during the school year.

Registration typically opens in late April.
